We often get asked about applying different effects to our photos and with this post I wanted to show you some different options and point out the benefits of each. By showing all of the photos together using the same image it is easier for you to decide which style you like since the strengths and weaknesses of the two mediums are highlighted.

Click on any picture to enlarge.

The color photo shown above it right out of the camera and shows an impressive range of colors. The photo looks natural, but maybe there is too much going on.

The black and white is moody and the focus of the subject becomes more apparent. The contrast in the image gives the photo more detail and the colors do not distract you from what is going on in the picture. The bright yellow fire truck seems to fade to the background.

This is obviously a hybrid between the black and white and color. You keep the range of colors which makes the picture, but not those colors that bring nothing to the photo. Which seems to make those colors that you keep more vivid and makes the picture pop. Also the benefit of the contrast in the black and whites brings more detail to the photo.

Which ever photo style you choose to like is fine with us at PSQ Photography, we just want to show you that you do have options.
